Yom HaShoah

2. maj 2011

Today is Yom HaShoah, a day were Jews commemorate the tragedy of the Holocaust. As a Jew, I believe it very important to remember a catastrophe, where few people, succeeded to make many people trying to exterminate even more, especially because I would have been among those exterminated, had I lived back then.

But I also find it important to remember that it hasn’t been the only time in history, where a few made many trying to exterminate even more. This has, tragically enough, happened all too many time during history of man. Therefore, being a symbol as I am, being a Jew, I will commemorate the many people killed during the Holocaust, being it other fellow Jews, homosexuals, handicapped, Gypsies, and everybody else having the “wrong” character and identity, as well as commemorating all those killed at other times, during a time where the lowest point of mankind reveals itself, being it persecution of people of the “wrong” faith in the past, people belonging to the “wrong” ethnicity, as was the case with the Armenians, as well as others, both in past and present.

Ignorance will lead to tragedy of mankind. Please use this day as a day to remember that we all come from the same source, whether you believe in one creating Divinity or you believe in evolution.

Truer words couldn’t be spoken. It is important to remember that it was not only Jews who were killed in the Holocaust but also the gypsies, homosexuals etc. and they deserve the same moment of silence.

Great post; alas, was the only one I could read as it was in English—is your blog in Swedish or another Scandinavian language? Some of the words look quite familiar to English!

  2. Hi Meredith:o)

It’s Danish;o).. And you weren’t supposed to be directed to my Danish blog, which I’ve closed down, but to my English blog, A Jewish Voice. Not that I blame you:o), just got surprised.

Regarding the last part, I wouldn’t even stop there, but also encourage people to remember that – though this was the worst of them – there has been other holocausts, even in the new millennium, so we should be really aware of how we view each other.
